A truly lovely stay! - The food was generally tasty, desserts in Hugos being a real highlight! I would stress that £5 for a bottle of water is a tad overpriced so would be good to offer still, sparkling or tap. I also feel that not including hot drinks at breakfast is a bit of a con, particularly in the ballroom buffet. We loved that in the package we tried all the restaurants! - The spa itself has great facilities, the treatment (lava shell massage) was brill. However, it was very crowded and people did not pay attention to the signs not reserving beds so we did struggle a little for places to go. More hooks may help with this? - The room was lovely, lots of water in the room and comfy beds. The pillows were lumpy but after ordering new ones, were great. Staff were honestly faultless, really lovely, chatty people. Thanks for a great weekend!

We stayed for 3 nights for our minimoon, having traveled straight from our wedding. I was desperate to come back to HCH after being twice before and having fab experiences some years ago. Whilst the spa facilities are extensive and stunning, and the staff are friendly (with very helpful concierge staff), we couldn’t ignore some of the changes that were clearly implemented by management with an obvious focus on money-making. We agree with other reviews that there seemed to be a much larger number of day guests than before - this is to the detriment of packed saunas and jacuzzis, and meant that we could hardly spend any time in one of our favourite spots, the sanctum ‘meditation’ pool, as it had large groups of people being very loud. On each day we spent time walking between facilities to try and find somewhere with room for us, taking away from the relaxation. We were also astounded at the additional charges for basic things - £5 for bottled water at dinner (which was not transparently communicated on any of our 3 dinners, and therefore felt like a purposeful and somewhat sly strategy), £5 for a proper coffee with your breakfast (only filter coffee included in prices) etc etc. It really does take away from the luxurious and relaxing feel of the whole experience - especially when you’ve paid a significant amount for a suite and indulgent experience. And finally, although we do understand that HCH must see many celebrations and honeymoons, it perhaps might have added a sweet and thoughtful touch to have a congratulations card in the room or another small gesture. We went on to a lake hut elsewhere after HCH and were welcomed with a card, macarons and prosecco in our room - making us feel celebrated and special. Interestingly, we did overhear some members saying that standards have gone down, prices have gone up, and focus has changed to money since a change in management. This loudly comes through and is such a shame. Our treatments were excellent for the most part, though they do make recommendations based on what they can sell you from their spa shop - in which the prices are more expensive than other retailers online. We were excited to spend 3 nights in a beautiful suite - which was lovely, but we were disappointed to find hairs in the bath on arrival, and a sticky yellow substance on the window sills - making you question the standard of cleaning. All in all - we did enjoy using the spa and we did think the food was excellent; though we couldn’t ignore the focus on money making which is blatant and really does take away from the luxury experience that this spa once had. We did enjoy our 3 days here, though it will unfortunately be our last visit, and instead we look forward to experiencing other ‘luxury’ spas in the future.

My partner bought me a Spa weekend as a Retirement present. We’ve just returned and have to say that it isTHE best Spa weekend have stayed in. The place itself is beautiful, the service is tops snatched food is excellent. My partner has complicated dietary needs and the Head Chef came out to advise and help with the menu choice. We also had a lovely back massage and facial. Josie was my masseuse and was excellent. Her manner was very professional and courteous. She made it an enjoyable and worthwhile hour! Well done Hoar Cross. We’ll be back !

Been coming here for about 10 years now and slowly seen the place go down hill, which is really sad because it has SO much potential! Food portions have got smaller (like the pork schnitzel that was served cut in half…), loved the days when you had the salad and soup self serve bar! The coffee & cake shop used to be fab too. I feel uncomfortable that everywhere you go people are taking photos and videos (obviously for social media attention) guests are in their swimwear!!! This is not acceptable, this needs to be reined in and no phone areas should be put in place. The ‘cave’ & jacuzzi’s in the salt water pool is used for very inappropriate behavior between couples… why are staff not around putting a stop to this? Cleanliness needs to be addressed, guests wearing slippers/sliders should be mandatory. In the fire and ice hot showers the ceiling is plastered in mould. The aromatherapy steam room could do with a scrub too. The toilets smell dirty and are full of mould. Used the snooze room, the warm water beds and blankets are still excellent but unfortunately the entrance door has been changed and it now lets in too much light which spoils the ambience. Staff are super friendly and helpful here which is your saving grace. But some fixes and changes are necessary.

The twilight spa was very short 7-10pm for £70 paid. I would be very cautious when ordering drinks at the terrace bar, check prices first! I ordered 3 medium wines and a Gin and tonic and the card machine was just placed before me to lean over in the hot tub outside. It wasn’t until later I realised I paid £60.75 for 4 drinks, pure extortion! Should the prices had been mentioned at the time of ordering it would have made a difference to the choices made. When I asked for a receipt it was apparent that 2 glasses of medium rose were £18 each, this surely should have been made aware. A bottle of rose in the restaurant was £34 which makes me advise anyone to check the prices of what you are ordering. The food in the restaurant was very poor, it’s very obvious that it is pre made well in advance and just warmed up. It was dry and cold. The side orders of fries were fresh and hot. Compared to other spas hoar cross has plenty to offer but for a high price, if you like to chill with friends and enjoy a hot tub and a drink there are much better experiences out there.

We've been visiting Hoar Cross Hall for years now. This is the first time we have stayed in a Garden View Suite and it was fabulous.||The spa is amazing, the refurbishments completed recently have improved the experience. The spa terrace is the standout area.||One improvement that is needed is the breakfast experience for those with dietary requirements (in this case, coeliac disease). There are no options for gluten free readily available except for yogurt and fruit. Please address this and offer something preemptivly to your gluten free guests or change your supplier of sausages/bacon! ||I submitted allergy information on booking, so you should already have this information to make sure all your guests have a lovely breakfast.||Otherwise, a lovely stay as always!

Although it looks great and the food and drink offering was superb, the spa offer is not what it used to be. It is now too busy, too packed and not relaxing at all. The treatments are a bit hit and miss and both of our rooms left a lot to be desired. Our room, the beds weren't made properly - the sheets weren't even tucked in. I work in this business so know what standards to be expect, even on a simple level, but this was poor. Our towelling robes were grey and needed binning. In our friend's room, they had no toilet roll, toiletries or supplies - so it was half finished. There are a lot of grubby public areas - I needed some flip flops - if you go to the shop and open the drawers, they are full of dust and dirt at the bottom. I even commented on it to the shop assistant and she ignored it. Our lunch was booked at 2pm then our treatments at 2.15, so that was never going to work! Overall, it is nice to look at, you eat a lot but since the expansion, it has really lost its' eye for service, particularly cleanliness, and level and quality of spa treatments.

An enjoyable visit overall. The spa offers very good value for money, with a lovely mix of facilities and activities both indoors and outdoors that kept the day feeling varied and relaxing. The treatments were excellent and the staff were attentive which made the experience feel personal and welcoming. A few improvements could make it feel more premium. The biggest downside was the food, which unfortunately didn't live up to the same standard as the rest of the visit. Stale, overcooked and flavourless, the meal was a disappointment compared to the otherwise high quality of the spa. Practical touches such as being able to easily replace a wet robe (rather than needing to request), having footwear provided, and offering glasses instead of paper cups for water would all make the experience feel more luxurious. In a few areas, cleanliness also wasn't perfect. That said, I'd happily return for the treatments, facilities, and service - I'd just plan to eat elsewhere.
