I came to Mobile with friends/colleagues to a teacher conference in July 2025. I stayed at The Kate Shephard House four nights and loved every minute. It is a beautiful place. It was a short drive to the convention center and local eateries. It was so much better than staying in a hotel.

The house is like something out of a dream. Like stepping back into an alternate timeline. Even the spirits are welcoming. Kelly was amazing in contacting me to let me know the status of the check in. There was coffee and snacks available. And incredible memorabilia and books. The room was gorgeous and the bed was almost too comfortable. Stayed in the Mobile Bay room. I wish I could have stayed longer. Can't wait to go back!!!

This beautiful historic house is incredible! Took me back into 1897 with the original furnishings, dishes, and artifacts. So cozy and in a quiet neighborhood. I loved it all! Thank you, Kelly, for hosting us!

I was at the Kate Shepard House years ago when it was a B&B and that was truly an amazing experience. The current owners clearly have no intention of keeping that magic. Multiple light bulbs out everywhere, signs of cleaning off, broken window in my room, and the kitchen was abysmal in terms of finding things and content. Just lack of attention to detail and maintenance. Why not just stay in a nice hotel? There’s no advantage here and yes, it matters. I wasn’t comfortable with security (poor locks) because anyone could knock that door in. I don’t think, could be wrong, that the site doesn’t cover no one on site. No coffee left out for guests and no expectation to bring “your own”. There was an espresso machine but the pastries were all pre-packaged things and really basic stuff. Just not what it used to be and not clearly enough defined as you’re just staying in an old house. Snarky responses from the owner to 1 star reviews are telling and I didn’t just write all this because I was bored, just disappointed.

We loved our stay in this beautifully maintained historic home in Mobile Alabama. Kate Shepard is my great aunt and I am so thankful that this family home is still available for folks to experience for themselves. We plan to visit again soon!

We called on the way into Mobile and were able to get The Barber room for Saturday night. The house and the room were lovely, clean and very comfortable. Oddly, we never saw another human while we were there. Everything was quite satisfactory save the "breakfast" which consisted of a couple of Costco cookies and muffins served in their plastic containers, sweet granola bars, and sweet instant oatmeal. The Nespresso coffee was good.
